  如来悉知是人悉见是人,皆得成绩不行量、不行称、无有边、难以想象好事,

  如是,世尊!如来有慧眼。

  如来于燃灯佛所,有法得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提不?

  不也,世尊!

  “whodevelopthesupremeenlightenmentmind,

  “Subhuti,theTathagatas'wordsaretrueandcorrespondtoreality.Theyareultimatewords,neitherdeceitfulnorheterodox.

  如是,如是。须菩提!

  WhentheBuddhahadfinishedexpoundingthissutra,

  善现祈请分第二

  须菩提!如有人以满无量阿僧祇天下七宝持用救济,

  THEDHARMABODYISNOTAPPEARANCES,TWENTY-SIX

  如有众生如来度者,

  Hehadbeggedfromdoortodoor,HereturnedtoHisplace.

  “Furthermore,Subhuti,

  如来不该以具足诸相见。

  “Because:Allphenomenaarelikeadream,anillusion,abubbleandashadow,Likedewandlightning.Thusshouldyoumeditateuponthem.”

  “Becausesrota-apannameans'enteringthestream',

  何故故?如来说:诸相具足,即非具足,是名诸相具足。

  希有!世尊!

  须菩提!于意云何?

  金刚般若波罗密经

  如来灭后,后五百岁,

  得福多不?

  不住声香味触法救济。

  若复有人,于此经中,以致受持四句偈等,为别人说,其福甚多!

  世尊!

  respectfullyjoinedthepalmsofhishandsandsaidtotheBuddha:

  “howshouldhisorhermindabideandhowshoulditbesubdued?”

  “Subhuti,Bodhisattvasshouldhavenolongingandnoattachmentwhentheypractisemeritoriousvirtues;

  “Subhuti,theseso-calledDharmasarenot,butare(expediently),calledallDharmas.

  应云何住?云何降伏其心?

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  “Yes,WorldHonouredOne,theTathagatasaystheyaresand-grains.”

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?Aretheremanyparticlesofdustintheuniverse?”

  须菩提!于意云何?

  唯然。世尊!愿乐欲闻。

  若以色见我 以音声求我

  “Subhuti,ifaBodhisattvasays:‘IshouldadornBuddhalands’,hecannotbecalledaBodhisattva.

  闻是章句,以致一念生净信者,

  “wouldthis(good)causeenablethegivertogainagreatmerit?”

  须菩提言:甚多,世尊!

  ACCEPTINGANDUPHOLDINGTHEDHARMAOF"THUSNESS",THIRTEEN

  斯陀含名一往来,

  “Subhuti,inlikemanner,ifaBodhisattvasays:‘Ishouldleaduncountablelivingbeingstoputastopto(reincarnation)andescape(fromsuffering)’,hecannotbecalledaBodhisattva.

  Subhutireplied:“Verygreat,WorldHonouredOne!”

  “(Because)iftheirmindsgrasptheNot-Dharma,theywill(still)clingtothenotionofanego,apersonality,abeingandalife.

  “CantheTathagatabeperceivedbyHiscompletelyperfectforms?”

  则(即)得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。

  须菩提,若菩萨有我相、人相、众生相、寿者相,则(即)非菩萨。

  以是义故,

  “Treadstheheterodoxpath(And)cannotperceivetheTathagata.

  HesaidtotheBuddha:“Howrare,OWorldHonoredOne!

  如来说即合法相,是名法相。

  实无有法名阿罗汉。

  Subhutireplied:“No,WorldHonouredOne.

  须菩提!于意云何?佛可以具足色身见不?

  “theTathagatacannotberecognizedbyHisthirty-twophysicalcharacteristics.”

  “CananArhathavethisthought(inhismind):IhaveobtainedtheenlightenmentofanArhat?”

  “ThesepeoplewillbeabletodevelopafaithinthesesentenceswhichtheywillconsiderasembodyingtheTruth.

  阿罗汉能作是念:“我得阿罗汉道”不?

  “howshouldtheirmindsabideandhowshouldtheybesubdued?”

  “WorldHonouredOne,asIunderstandyourteaching,

  “WhentheTathagatawaswithDipamkara,HedidnotobtainanythingfromtheDharma.”

  “WorldHonoredOne,willtherebelivingbeingswhocandevelopatruebelief

  Subhutireplied:'No,WorldHonoredOne.

  如来在燃灯佛所,于法实无所得。

  即为著我人众生寿者。

  右膝著地,

  何故故

  “TheBuddhasaidthelivingbeingsinalltheseworldsystemshavemanydifferentmindswhichareallknowntotheTathagata.

  “Furthermore,Subhuti,

  “BecauseonewhodevelopstheSupremeEnlightenmentMind,

  “Why?

  灭度统统众生已,而无有一众生实灭度者。

  “AvirtuousmanorwomanwhoisdeterminedtodeveloptheSupremeEnlightenedMind,

  须菩提白佛言:世尊!如来无所说。

  须菩提!汝若作是念:

  是诸众生无复我相、人相、众生相、寿者相。无法相,亦无合法相。

  须菩提!说法者,无法可说,是名说法。

  “No,WorldHonouredOne,theTathgatecannotbeseenbymeansofHisbodilyform.

  “Subhuti,iftheTathagatacanberecognisedbyHisthirty-twophysical

  “Subhuti,

  能净业障分第十六

  “WorldHonoredOne,Idonotthink‘IamapassionlessArhat,for,

  sambodhi)meanthatyouhavenotgainedanythingwhatsoever?”

  “andwhentheyhavebeensoled,notoneoftheminfactstops(reincarnating)orescapessuffering.

  须菩提!实无有法。发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心者。

  应如是住,如是降伏其心。

  “Why?

  须菩提!如来所得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,于是中无实无虚。

  燃灯佛则(即)不与我授记:

  Subhutireplied:

  何故故?须菩提!

  “Subhuti,when(theTathagata)expoundstheDharma,thereisreallynoDharmatoteach:butthisis(expediently)calledteachingtheDharma.”

  佛言:

  SubhutisaidtotheBuddha:

  甚多,世尊!

  “Becauseiftheyreallyexisted,theBuddhawouldnotsaytheywereparticlesofdust.

  TheVajracchedika-prajna-paramitaSutra

  greatbody.”

  “Thissutrashouldbecalled‘TheDiamondprajna-paramita’underwhichnameyoushouldreceiveandholdit.

  “Many,WorldHonouredOne!”

  “Subhuti,supposingthereisamanwhosebodyisgreat.”

  是身为大不?

  “Why?Becausehewillnolonger(thinkintermsof)anego,apersonality,abeingandalife.

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  “Therefore,theBuddhasays:

  如是,世尊!如来有佛眼。

  “ifavirtuousmanorwomanreceives,holds(inmind),readsandrecitesthissutraandisdespisedbyothers,

  ThusIhaveheard.

  一公道相分第三十

  一相无相分第九

  若善女子、善女人,受持读诵此经,

  于法不说断灭相。

  第一波罗蜜,非第一波罗蜜,是名第一波罗蜜。

  “Why?

  “No,WorldHonouredone,thatpersondoesnotunderstand.

  “hismeritswillfarexceedminewhichresultedfrommyofferingsmadetoBuddhas,

  须菩提!于意云何?恒河中一切沙,佛说是沙不?

  何故故?

  而无所入,不入色声香味触法,

  “我当有所说法。”

  Subhutireplied:“Many,WorldHonouredOne!”

  世尊则不说须菩提是乐阿兰那行者!

  福德亦复如是不行思量。

  佛说是经已,

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  “BecauseAnagaminmeans‘no-coming’butactuallythereisnosuchathingasno-coming.

  是故名阿那含。

  “Why?

  不也,世尊!

  Atthattime,afterlisteningtothissutra,Subhutihadunderstooditsprofoundmeaningandwasmovedtotears.

  “Inwhatmannershoulditbetaughttoothers?Byteachingitwithoutattachmenttoformwiththeimmutabilityoftheabsolute.

  法身非相分第二十六

  如法受持分第十三

  诸菩萨摩诃萨应如是降伏其心!

  须菩提!于意云何?

  “ThisiswhytheBuddhasaysthatBodhisattvas'mindsshouldnotabideinformwhenpractisingcharity(dana).

  “Why?

  若善女子、善女人,于后季世,有受持读诵此经,

  “BecausewhentheBuddhaspeaksofparticlesofdust,theyarenot,butare(expediently)called,particlesofdust.

  以是者何?须菩提!

  何故故?

  “astheTathagatasays,

  “'No,WorldHonouredOne.TheTathagatacannotbeperceivedbythem.

  “Subhuti,banishthatthought.

  须菩提!莫作是念。

  而实无往来,

  “thisDharmaisuniversalandimpartial;

  须菩提!忍辱波罗蜜,如来说非忍辱波罗蜜。是名忍辱波罗蜜。

  THEMERITANDVIRTUEGAINEDFROMUPHOLDINGTHISSUTRA,FIFTEEN

  如来不该以具足色身见。

  “DoBodhisattvasadornBuddhalands(bytheirmoralactions)?”

  “ifavirtuousmanorwomanisabletoreceive,hold(inmind),readand

  凡一切相,皆是虚妄。

  何故故?

  “(Because)theDharmatheTathagataexpoundscannotbeclungtoandcannotbeexpressed(inwords);itisneitherDharmanorNot-Dharma.

  “Because,Subhuti,thereisnotreallyaDharmawhichcandeveloptheSupreme-Enlightenment-Mind.

  “aBodhisattva'smindshouldnotabideanywherewhengivingalms;

  NODHARMACANBEOBTAINED,TWENTY-TWO

  如来不以具足相故,得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。

  “Subhuti,thelivingbeings(youjustmentioned)areneitherlivingnornotlivingbeings.

  须菩提!当知是人成绩最上第一希有之法,

  如是我闻。

  “Subhuti,theTathagatasaystheseparticlesofdustarenot(real),(but)are(merely)calledparticlesofdust.

  “Theseriverswouldbeinnumerable;howmuchmoresowouldbetheirsand-

  何故故?

  “'Subhuti,donotsaythattheTathagatathinks:

  “Because,Subhuti,neitherthepast,thepresentnorthefuturemindcanbefound

  “therefore,theydonotreceiveareward.

  须菩提!于意云何?

  一切统统众生之类:若卵生、若胎生、若湿生、若化生;

  何故故?

  “Furthermore,Subhuti,

  须菩提!众生众生者,如来说非众生,是名众生。

  我念过来无量阿僧祇劫,于燃灯佛前,

  况且有人尽能受持读诵。

  世尊!

  “(Because)theywillhavewipedoutfalsenotionsofanego,apersonality,abeingandalife,ofDharmaandNot-Dharma.

  “youshouldknowthatsuchapersonismostrare.

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?DoestheTathagatapossessDharmaeyes?”

  是诸众生若心取相,即为著我人众生寿者。

  佛告须菩提:

  当知是经义难以想象,果报亦难以想象。

  “WorldHonoredOne,ifsomeoneafterlisteningtothissutrabelievesthat

  “withorwithoutform,

  当知是人甚为希有。

  Subhutireplied:“Yes,yes,Hecan.”

  “Subhuti,Whatdoyouthink?DoestheTathagatapossessBuddhaeyes?”

  “Howmuchmoresoifthissutraiswritten,received,held,read,recitedandexpoundedtoothers!

  世尊!我今得闻如是经典,信解受持缺乏为难,

  是故佛说:菩萨心不该住色救济。

  须菩提!发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心者,

  “Ifontheonehand,therebeamanwholistenstothissutraandisnotfilledwithalarm,fear,ordread,

  “hewillstillgraspandholdontothenotionofanego,apersonality,abeingandalife.

  “Yes,WorldHonouredOne,theTathagatapossesseshumaneyes.”

  “Subhuti.whatdoyouthink?IfavirtuousmanorwomanreducedtodustalltheworldsintheUniverse,wouldthoseparticlesofdustmany?”

  inthesewords,sentencesandchapterswhentheyareexpoundedtothem?”

  饭食讫,收衣钵,洗足已,敷座而坐。

  NOTDESTROYEDNORANNIHILATED,TWENTY-SEVEN

  “Ifavirtuousmanorwomanfilledanumberofuniverses,asgreatasthe

  须菩提!又念过来于五百世作忍辱神仙,于尔所世,无我相、无人相、无众生相、无寿者相。

  如有人满三千大千天下七宝以用救济,

  “whatdoyouthink?

  “‘TheTathagatadoesnotrelyonHispossessionofcharacteristicstoobtainsupremeEnlightenment,’

  我应灭度统统众生。

  “Why?

  斯陀含能作是念:“我得斯陀含果”不?

  “WorldHonoredOne,ifIhadthought‘IhaveattainedArhatship’,

  是福德即非福德行,是故如来说福德多。

  “DidtheTathagataobtainanythingfrom:heDharma,wheninthepastHewaswithDipamkaraBuddha?”

  “Why?Because,Subhuti,

  须菩提!若三千大千天下中一切诸须弥山王,如是等七宝聚,

  “therefore,HeiscalledtheTathagata.

  “Subhuti,doesthatpersonunderstandwhatImean?"

  “Because,Subhuti,ifaBodhisattvaclingstothenotionofanego,apersonality,abeingandalife,heisnota(true)Bodhisattva.

  “(Because),Subhuti,allBuddhasandtheirSupreme-Enlightenment-Dharmaoriginatefromthissutra.

  佛说般若波罗蜜,则非般若波罗蜜。是名般若波罗蜜。

  当知是人,成绩第一希有好事。

  如有善女子、善女人,以七宝满尔所满坑满谷三千大千天下,以用救济,

  统统无为法 如空中阁楼如露亦如电 应作如是观

  如来有所说法耶?

  Subhutireplied:“No,WorldHonouredOne.

  ofalltheseGangesrivers,wouldtherebemanyworldsystems?”

  NOGREEDANDNOTHINGACQUIRED,TWENTYEIGHT

  世尊!

  如我昔为歌利王割截身材,

  “Theirmindsshouldnotabideinform,sound,smell,taste,touchanddharma.Theirmindsshouldabidenowhere.

  “Subhuti,youshouldknowthatsuchapersonwillachievethehighestandrarestDharma.

  “Subhuti,theso-calledgoodvirtues(Dharmas),

  “myfullstatementofthisperson'smeritswillcreatederangement,doubtanddisbeliefinthemindsofalllisteners.

  theelderSubhuti,togetherwithbhiksus,bhiksunis,upasakas,upasikas,

  以是者何?

  实无众生得灭度者。

  TRANSFORMINGWITHOUTTHEREBEINGANYONETRANSFORMED,TWENTY-FIVE

  “Itisveryrare,OWorldHonouredOne!

  佛告须菩提:如是!如是!

  “Subhuti,aBodhisattva'smindshouldthusabideastaught.

  “thispersonwhoisboundtosufferfromevildestiniesinretributionforhispastsins,andwhosekarmicSinsarenoweradicatedbytheothers'contempt,willattainSupremeEnlightenment(Anuttarasamyak-sambodhi).

  须菩提!实无有法名为菩萨。

  “'Subhuti,ifthemeritwasreal,theTathagatawouldnotsayitwasgreat.

  “theWorldHonoredOnewouldnothavesaid:‘Subhutitakesdelightin-thecalmandquiet,freefromtemptationanddistress.

  世尊!是实相者,则黑白相,是故如来说名实相。

  “OWorldHonouredOne,

  “inthelastperiodoftheBuddhakalpa,ifavirtuousmanorwomanisabletoreceive,hold(inmind),readandrecitethissutra,

  须菩提!菩萨为长处统统众生故,应如是救济。

  “Uponhearingthesesentences,therewillariseinthemasinglethoughtofpurefaith.

  “Subhuti,tosumup,themeritsresultingfromthissutraareinconceivable,inestimableandwithoutlimit.

  “Thisiswhy,

  “WorldHonouredOne,whatnameshouldbegiventothissutraandhowshouldwereceiveandholdit(inmind)?”

  如有想、若无想、

  统统人间、天、人、阿修罗,所应扶养;

  Subhutireplied:“Many,WorldHonoredOne.

  若复有人知统统法无我,得成于忍,

  TheBuddhasaidtoSubhuti:

  须菩提言:‘不也,世尊!

  须菩提!菩萨无住相救济,

  尔时,世尊而说偈言:

  “WorldHonoredOne,asInowlistentothissutraIhavenodifficultyin

  “whenHewaswithDipamkaraBuddha,

  THEREASONSFORTHEDHARMAASSEMBLY,ONE

  须菩提!于意云何?如来有高眼不?

  于意云何?

  “youshouldknowthatasthemeaningofthissutraisinconceivable,soisthefruitofitsreward.”

  “WorldHonouredOne,

  “youshouldknowthatalldevas,menandasurasshouldmaketheirofferingsthereasiftheplacewasaBuddhastupaoraBuddhatemple.

  THEYARISEFROMDHARMA,EIGHT

  “Iftheyareabletoreceive,hold(inmind),readandreciteitandexpounditwidelytoothers,

  “Why?

  “ifanArhatthinks‘IhaveobtainedtheenlightenmentofanArhat’,

  “Everythingwithformisunreal;

  “Why?Because,inthepast,whenmybodywasdismembered,ifI(still)heldtheconceptionofanego,apersonality,abeingandalife,

  Atthetime,theelderSubhutiwhowasintheassembly,rosefromhisseat,

  世尊!当何名此经?我等云何奉持?

  是诸众生得如是无量福德。

  不该以三十二相观如来。

  佛说如是甚深经典,

  “themeritresultingfromtheformer'sdanawillnotbeworthone-hundredth,one-thousandth,one-ten-thousandthandone-hundredthousandthpartofthatobtainedbythelatter,asnoconceivablecomparisoncanbemadebetweenthetwo.

  须菩提!于意云何?

  “Why?

  Subhutireplied:“Verygreat,WorldHonoredOne.

  如是,世尊!如来有天眼。

  须菩提!在在到处,如有此经,

  apersonality,abeingandalife,

  “shouldthusabideandbesubdued.”

  Subhutireplied:“Verygreat,WorldHonoredOne!”

  SubhutithenaskedtheBuddha:

  须菩提!以诸菩萨不受福德故。

  “itistruethatnotalivingbeingisledthere.

  菩萨于法,应无所住,行于救济,

  如来常说:

  须菩提言:甚多,世尊!

  “Subhuti,ifontheonehand,someonegaveawayinalms(dana)theseventreasuresinquantitiessufficienttofillalltheworldsinuncount-ableaeons,

  莫作是念,

  有人持用救济;若人以此《般若波罗蜜经》,以致四句偈等,受持读诵、为别人说,

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  如有善女子、善女人,发菩萨心者,

  “Why?

  “youwilladvocatetheannihilationofallDharmas.

  况且誊写、受持、读诵、为人讲解。

  “Andwhy?

  “Yes,WorldHonouredOne,theTathagatapossessesBuddhaeyes.”

  须菩提言:甚大,世尊!Why?何故故?

  “Whatdoyouthink.?

  “hismeritwillbeinconceivableandimmeasurable.

  “butactuallythereisnoentryintoeitherform,sound,smell,taste,touchordharma.

  “Why?

  “theTathagatawillknowandwillseethattheywillachieveinexpressibleandinconceivablemeritsthatarewithoutmeasureorlimit.

  “BecausewhentheTathagataspeaksofbodilyform,itisnot(real)form.”

  须菩提言:不也,世尊!

  “Whyisthis?

  “Why?

  “Therefore,oneshouldnotgraspandholdontothenotionofDharmaaswellasthatofNot-Dharma.

  须菩提言:

  “Subhuti,

  “thereisnofixedDharmacalledSupremeEnlightenmentandthereisalsono

  THESUPREMACYOFUNCONDITIONEDBLESSINGS,ELEVEN

  尊严净土分第十

  “Wouldsuchabodybegreat?”

  非说所说分第二十一

  “CanaSakrdagaminhavethisthought(inhismind):IhaveobtainedthefruitofaSakrdagamin?”

  “willresultintheattainmentofSupremeEnlightenment.

  TheBuddhasaid:“Subhuti,

  可以三十二相观如来不?

  净心行善分第二十三

  “CananAnagaminhavethisthought(inhismind):IhaveobtainedthefruitofanAnagamin?”

  如是灭度无量有数无边众生,

  “Thepracticeofallgoodvirtues(Dharmas),freefromattachmenttoanego,

  SubhutiaskedtheBuddha:“WorldHonoredOne,whydoBodhisattvasnotreceiverewardfortheirmerits?”

  “IrememberthatinthepastcountlessaeonsbeforetheadventofDipamkaraBuddha,

  世尊!

  “Subhuti,Ialsorememberthatinthepast,duringmyformerfivehundredlives,IwasaKsantyrsiandheldnoconceptionofanego,apersonality,a

  如来为发大乘者说,为发最上乘者说。

  “(Because)ifaBodhisattva'sminddoesnotabideinforms.(laksanas)whenpracticingcharity(dana),

  世尊!颇有众生,于将来世,闻说是法,生决心不?

  “Why?

  若见诸相非相,则见如来。

  TheBuddhasaid:

  统统法无我、无人、无众生、无寿者。

  须菩提!菩萨亦如是。若作是言:“我当灭度无量众生”,则不名菩萨。

  Enlightenment.

  “WhentheTathagatawaswithDipamkaraBuddha,didHehaveanyDharmabymeansofwhichHeattainedSupremeEnlightenment(Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi)?”

  须菩提!于意云何?

  “forminecannotbereckonedasonehundredth,onethousandth,onetenthousandthoronehundredthousandthpartthereof;infactnocomputationorcomparisonispossible.

  若复有人,于此经中受持,以致四句偈等,为别人说,其福胜彼。

  正信希有分第六

  “theTathagata,bymeansofHisBuddhaWisdom,willknowandseeclearlythatsuchapersonwillachieveimmeasurableandunlimitablemerits.

  世尊!如我解佛所说义,

  须菩提!所言法相者,

  若天下实有者,则(即)是一合相。

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  须菩提!于意云何?如来有天眼不?

  佛说非身,是名大身。

  CONTEMPLATINGTHEONENESSOFEVERYTHING,EIGHTEEN

  “andthisiscalledSupremeEnlightenment.

  “Because(when)theTathagataspeaksoftheviewofanego,aPersonality,abeingandalife,

  “becausetheTathagatasaysthecompletelyperfectformsarenot,butare

  云何应住?云何降伏其心?

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?CantheBuddhabeperceivedbyHiscompletelyperfectphysicalbody(rupa-kaya)?”

  如来说:具足色身,即非具足色身,是名具足色身。

  fixedDharmatheTathagatacanexpound.

  Atthetime,SubhutiaskedtheBuddha:

  “howwelltheTathagataprotectsandthinksofallBodhisattvas;howwellHeinstructsalltheBodhisattvas.

  andalltheworldsofdevas,menandasuraswhohadlistenedtoHisteaching,werefilledwithjoyandbelievedreceivedandobservedit.

  “Subhuti,

  何故故?

  若菩萨心不住法而行救济,如人有目,日黑暗照,见种种色。

  “Howmuchmoresoifsomeoneisabletoreceive,hold(inmind),readandrecitethewholesutra!

  calledcompletelyperfectforms.”

  世尊!若复有人得闻是经,决心清净,则生实相,

  须菩提!

  “‘ImustexpoundtheDharma.’

  何故故?

  何故故?

  PROPERFAITHISRARE,SIX

  是名阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。

  “(Because)ifaBodhisattva(still)clingstothefalsenotion(laksana)of

  我于阿耨多罗三藐三菩提以致无有少法可得,

  “Why?Because,Subhuti,

  “butactuallythereisneithercomingnorgoing.

  所谓不住色救济,

  法尚应舍,况且合法。

  “Subhuti,

  “IfsomeonefilledtheUniversewiththeseventreasuresandgavethemallasalms,wouldhismeritbegreat?”

  何故故?如来说:三十二相,便是非相,是名三十二相。

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthinkDoestheTathagataexpoundtheDharma?”

  临时佛在舍卫国。祗树给孤单园。与大比丘众。千二百五十人俱。

  须菩提!所言善法者,

  “No,WorldHonouredOne.

  “DipamkaraBuddhawouldnothavepredicted:

  如来说:统统诸相,便是非相。又说:统统众生,则非众生。

  何故故

  须菩提!于意云何?如来有慧眼不?

  无有法得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。

  “Subhuti,canyouthinkofandmeasure(all)theextentofspaceintheSouth,WestandNorth,aswellasintheintermediatedirections,includingthezenithandnadir?”

  RESPONSESANDTRANSFORMATIONSAREUNREAL,THIRTY-TWO

  如来则有我人众生寿者。

  “Imet84,000milliardsofBuddhastowhomImadeofferingsandwhomIservedfaultlessly.

  “therewillbethosewhowillobservetherulesofmoralityandperformgoodactionswhichwillresultinblessing.

  “Whyisit?Because‘Tathagata’meansthesuchnessofallDharmas.

  “and(ontheotherhand)anothermanreceives,holds(inmind)readsandrecitesevenafour-linestanzaofthisPrajna-paramitaSutra,andexpoundsittoothers,

  我皆令入有余涅槃而灭度之。

  “andif(ontheotherhand)apersonafterlisteningtothissutrabelievesinhisownmindwithout(further)contradiction,thelatter'smeritwillsurpassthatoftheformer.

  “Canonewhohasenteredthestream(srota-apanna)havethisthought(inhismind):Ihaveobtainedthefruitofenteringthestream?”

  何故故?

  以是者何?

  如来说:

  须菩提白佛言:

  以须菩提实无所行,而名须菩提是乐阿兰那行。

  TheBuddhasaid:“Justso!Subhuti,justso!

  是名须陀洹。

  威仪沉寂分第二十九

  KNOWLEDGEANDVIEWSARENOTPRODUCED,THIRTY-ONE

  KARMICOBSTRUCTIONSCANBEPURIFIED,SIXTEEN

  百分不及一,万万亿分、以致算数比方所不克不及及。

  须菩提!于意云何?

  “allBodhisattvasandMahasattvasshouldsubduetheirmindsasfollows:

  “Subhuti,ifaBodhisattvapractisescharity(dana)withamindabidinginthings(dharma),heislikeamanenteringthedarknesswherehecannotseeanything;

  是经名为《金刚般若波罗蜜》,以是名字,汝当奉持。

  LEAVINGBOTHFORMANDAPPEARANCES,TWENTY

  须菩提!如有善女子、善女人,初日分以恒河沙等身救济,中日分复以恒河沙等身救济,后日分亦以恒河沙等身救济,如是无量百万万亿劫以身救济;

  THEONEAPPEARANCEISBEYONDAPPEARANCES,NINE

  何故故?须菩提!

  世尊,我不作是念:“我是离欲阿罗汉”。

  “Why?Because,Subhuti,

  应生嗔恨。

  而白佛言:希有,世尊!

  “Subhuti,hewhodevelopstheSupremeEnlightenmentMind,

  如来可以具足诸相见不?

  WONDERFULPRACTICEISTONOTRELYONANYTHING,FOUR

  “theTathagatashouldnotbesoperceived.

  “hismeritisequallyinconceivableandimmeasurable.

  “Why?

  须菩提言:世尊!如来说:人身长大,则为非大身,是名大身。

  须菩提!于意云何?可以三十二相见如来不?

  统统贤圣,皆以有为法而有差异。

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  则(即)为如来以佛伶俐,悉知是人,悉见是人,皆得成绩无量无边好事。

  须菩提!如有人言:如来若来若去、若坐若卧,是人不解我所说义。

  须菩提!菩萨应如是救济,不住于相。

  若乐小法者,著我见、人见、众生见、寿者见,

  离色离相分第二十

  我从昔来所得慧眼,不曾得闻如是之经。

  “'No,WorldHonouredOne,

  其福胜彼。

  是故不该取法,不该取合法。

  如来善护念诸菩萨,善付嘱诸菩萨。

  “Why?

  “No,WorldHonouredOne.

  “'Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?DoestheTathagatapossessdevaeye?”

  于意云何?是诸恒河沙宁为多不?

  “Subhuti,Inowtellyoutruly.

  “CantheTathagataberecognisedbyHisthirty-twophysicalcharacteristics?”

  “Hewhoseesmebyoutwardappearance(And)seeksmeinsound,

  若菩萨通达无我、法者,如来说名真是菩萨。

  “Why?

  “Subhuti,if(ontheonehand)aman,inhispracticeofcharity(dana)givesawaytheseventreasurespiledupinaheapasgreatasalltheMountsSumeruintheUniverseputtogether,

  须菩提!凡夫者,如来说则特殊夫。

  若取合法相,即著我人众生寿者,

  “BecausewhentheTathagataspeaksofsuchadornmentitisnot,butis(expediently),calledadornment.

  须菩提!若菩萨心住于法而行救济,如人入暗,则(即)无所见;

  “andneitherthoughtfulnorthoughtless

  以是者何?我相便是非相,人相、众生相、寿者相便是非相。

  “EventheDharmashouldbecastaside;howmuchmoresotheNot-Dharma?

  合掌敬重而白佛言:

  何故故?

  “Hesayssobecausethereisnomerit.

  “doesnotadvocatetheannihilation(ofthings).

  如果经典地点之处,则为有佛,若恭敬门生。

  commonmenthinkso.

  不也,世尊!

  尔时,慧命须菩提白佛言:

  Reality.

  以福德无端,如来说得福德多。

  复次,须菩提!

  theGangesaresand-grains?”

  APUREMINDDOESWHOLESOMEDEEDS,TWENTY-THREE

  如是,世尊!如来有肉眼。

  UNDERSTANDINGANDTRANSFORMINGTHEDHARMAREALM,NINETEEN

  “Ihadatthattimenonotionofanego,apersonality,abeingandalife.

  “IftheirmindsgrasptheDharma,theywill(still)clingtothenotionofanego,apersonality,abeingandalife.

  佛言:

  尔时,须菩提白佛言:

  须菩提!一合相者,则(即)是不行说,凡是夫之人贪著其事。

  须菩提!于意云何?西方虚空可思量不?

  如是,世尊!如来有高眼。

  “(Because)iftheirmindsgraspform(laksana),theywill(still)clingtothenotionofanego,apersonality,abeingandalife.

  若人满三千大千天下七宝以用救济,是人所得福德,宁为多不?

  何故故?

  如理实见分第五

  须菩提白佛言:

  “BecausethemindstheTathagataspeaksofarenotminds,butare

  “Asyousay,theTathagataprotects,cherishesandinstructsBodhisattvassowell.

  须陀洹名为入流,

  WHATISSPOKENISNOTSPOKEN,TWENTY-ONE

  TheBuddhasaid:“Justso!Subhuti,justso!

  “'Yes,WorldHonouredOne,theTathagatapossessesdevaeyes.”

  须菩提!如有法如来得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,

  不也,世尊!不行以身相得见如来。

  持经好事分第十五

  长老须菩提及诸比丘、比丘尼、优婆塞、优婆夷、

  甚多,世尊!

  无得无说分第七

  “foryoushouldknowthatsuchaplaceisjustastupawhichshouldberevered,worshippedandcircumambulated,withofferingsofflowersandincense.

  如是人等,则(即)为荷担如来阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。

  以是者何?

  anego,apersonality,abeingandalife,heisnot(atrue)Bodhisattva.

  “WorldHonoredOne,thisRealityisnotRealitybuttheTathagatacallsit

  thethirty-twophysicalcharacteristics.”

  如果微尘众实有者,佛则(即)不说是微尘众,

  何故故?

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  离相寂灭分第十四

  何故故?

  于前福德百分不及一,百万万亿分,以致算数比方所不克不及及。

  hismindiscleanandpure,hewillrealisereality.

  则(即)于此经,不克不及听受读诵、为人讲解。

  须菩提!于意云何?如一恒河中一切沙,有如是沙等恒河,是诸恒河一切沙数,佛天下如是,宁为多不?

  复次,须菩提!

  “butinthelastepoch,thelastfivehundredyearperiodiftherebeamanwho(happensto)listentothissutra,believes,understandsreceivesandholdsit,hewillbemostrare.

  何故故?须菩提!

  “Why?BecausewhenhehasrejectedallformsheiscalledaBuddha.”

  “BecausetheBuddhasaysitisnottherealbodybutis(merely)calleda

  “Therefore,heiscalledaSakrdagamin.”

  “Subhuti,ifsomeonesaystheTathagatacomesorgoes,sitsorlies,hedoesnotunderstandwhatImean.

  须菩提!莫作是念:“如来不以具足相故,得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。”

  “Subhuti,ifontheotherhand,someonereceivedandkeptevenafourlinestanzaofthissutraandexpoundedittoothers,hismeritwouldsurpassthat(ofthegiveroftreasures).

  须菩提!如有善女子、善女人,以恒河沙等身命救济;

  “Why?

  以是者何?

  “wouldthetotalofgrainsofsandinalltheseriversbeverygreat?”

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink.?DoestheTathagatapossesshumaneyes?”

  如来昔在燃灯佛所,于法有所得不?

  须菩提!

  “Subhuti,allBodhisattvasshouldthusmakeofferingsforthewelfareofalllivingbeings.

  实无有众生如来度者,

  “‘Ishouldliberatelivingbeings.’

  “TherewasreallynoDharmabymeansofwhichtheTathagataattainedSupreme

  须菩提言:‘如是!如是!以三十二相观如来。’

  “Ifsomeonestillsays:‘TheTathagataobtainedSupremeEnlightenment,’

  THEDIAMONDSUTRA

  如有善女子、善女人,能于此禁受持读诵,

  佛告须菩提:

  终究无我分第十七

  如我解佛所说义,

  云作甚人演说,不取于相,如如不动。

  复次,须菩提!

  世尊说:我见、人见、众生见、寿者见,

  以无我、无人、无众生、无寿者,修统统善法,

  是人行正道 不克不及见如来

  须菩提!菩萨但应如所教住。

  何故故?

  kneltuponhisrightknee,

  TheBuddhasaid:

  如来说:诸心皆为非心,是名为心。

  WhenHehadtakenHismeal,HeputawayHisrobeandbowl,washedHisfeet,arrangedHisseatandsatdown.

  “Donothavesuchathought.

  须菩提!诸微尘,如来说非微尘,是名微尘。

  “Inyournextlife,youwillbeaBuddhanamedSakyamuni".

  “Iwouldhavebeenstirredbyfeelingsofangerandhatred.

  法界通化分第十九

  TheBuddhasaid:

  于其城中,序次乞已,还至本处。

  须菩提!统统诸佛,及诸佛阿耨多罗三藐三菩提法,皆今后经出。

  故名如来。

  福智无比分第二十四

  须菩提!实无有法,佛得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。

  可以身相见如来不?

  “Subhuti,theso-calledBuddhasandDharmasarenotrealBuddhasandDharmas.

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?DoestheTathagatapossesswisdomeyes?”

  “Why?Because,Subhuti,

  Oneday,atmealtime,theWorldHonoredOneputonHisrobe,tookHisbowl,andenteredthegreattownofSravastitobegforHisfood.

  “Theyshoulddevelopamindwhichdoesnotabideinanything.

  “eitherthoughtfulorthoughtless,

  “WorldHonouredOne,willtherebeinfutureageslivingbeingswhowill

  “TheTathagataspeaksofagglomerationswhicharenot,butare(expediently)called,agglomerations.”

  是人以是因缘,得福多不?

  即非我见、人见、众生见、寿者见,是名我见、人见、众生见、寿者见。

  不也,世尊!

  THEQUIESCENCEOFHISAWESOMEDEMEANOR,TWENTY-NINE

  是故如来说:统统法皆是佛法。

  如来说:尊严佛土者,即非尊严,是名尊严。

  当知此处,统统人间、天、人、阿修罗,皆应扶养,如佛塔庙,

  Onceuponatime,theBuddhasojournedintheJetavanaparknearSravastiwithanassemblyoftwelvehundredandfiftybhiksus.

  一体同观分第十八

  持于此经,以致四句偈等,受持读诵,为人演说,

  如是,世尊!如来说是沙。

  发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心,

  尊严佛土者,则(即)非尊严,是名尊严。

  佛告须菩提:

  若心有住,则为非住。

  “(but)ifaBodhisattvapractisesdanawithamindnotabidingindharma,heislikeamanwithopeneyes,whocanseeeverythinginthesunshine.

  汝等勿谓如来作是念:

  须菩提!如恒河中一切沙数,如是沙等恒河,

  “Subhuti,wheresoeverthissutramaybefound,

  THEPRINCIPLEOFAUNITYOFAPPEARANCES,THIRTY

  若非有想非无想,

  须菩提!如来是真语者、实语者、如语者、不诳语者、相同语者。

  “WorldHonouredOne,

  须菩提!所谓佛、法者,即非佛、法。

  有持戒修福者,

  “Subhuti,ifontheonehand,avirtuousmanorwoman,ingivingalms(dana),sacrificesasmanylivesastherearesand-grainsintheGanges,andontheotherhand,

  TheBuddhasaid:

  须菩提言:不也,世尊!

  “Becausethisisnotrealadornment;itis(merely)calledtheadornmentofBuddhalands.”

  是故说不受福德。

  如来所说身相,即非身相。

  何故故?

  Subhutisaid:“WorldHonouredOne,thegreatbodyofwhichtheTathagataspeaksisnotgreat,butis(expediently)calledagreatbody.”

  得值八百四万万亿那由他诸佛,悉皆扶养承事,无空过者;

  何故故?离统统诸相,则(即)名诸佛。

  “whereforeitiscalledSupremeEnlightenment.

  佛于燃灯佛所,

  “(when)theTathagataspeaksofanego,thereisinrealitynoego,although

  “Yes,WorldHonouredOne,becauseofthis(good)causethegiverwouldgainagreatmerit.”

  无法可得分第二十二

  尔时,须菩提白佛言:

  阿那含名为不来,而实无不来,

  “BecausetherearereallynolivingbeingswhomtheTathagatacanliberate.

  是故须菩提!菩萨应离统统相,发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心,

  何故故?

  当知是人不于一佛二佛三四五佛而种善根,

  “No,WorldHonouredOne,

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?IftherewereasmanyGangesriversassand-grainsintheGanges,andiftherewereasmanyBuddharealmsassandgrains

  “Why?BecausetheTathagatahasneitherwhence(tocome)norwhither(togo);

  如汝所说:如来善护念诸菩萨,善付嘱诸菩萨,

  须菩提!于意云何?如来有佛眼不?

  须菩提!当来之世,

  须菩提!若善女子、善女人,以三千大千天下碎为微尘,于意云何?是微尘众宁为多不?

  “allworldsofdevas,menandasurasshouldmakeofferings,

  “Subhuti,theTathagataspeaksofthePerfectionofPatience(ksantiparamita)whichisnotbutiscalledthePerfectionofPatience.

  TheBuddhasaidtoSubhuti:

  何故故?

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?CantheTathagatabeperceivedbymeansofHisthirty-twophysicalcharacteristics(laksanas)?”

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?DoestheTathagatasaythatthesand-grainsin

  “ifallformsareseenasunreal,theTathagatawillbeperceived.”

  “thelatter'smeritwouldsurpassthatoftheformer.

  此菩萨胜前菩萨所得好事。

  LEAVINGAPPEARANCESANDSTILLCESSATION,FOURTEEN

  我于尔时,无我相、无人相、无众生相、无寿者相。

  SubhutisaidtotheBuddha:

  “and(ontheotherhand)anothermancomprehendedthatalldharmaswereegolessandtherebyachievedperfectionofpatience(ksanti),

  “CantheTathagatabeseenbymeansofHisbodilyform?”

  若复有人,于后季世,能受持读诵此经,

  须陀洹能作是念:“我得须陀洹果”不?

  “TheTathagataspeaksofformswhicharenotformsandoflivingbeingswhoarenotlivingbeings.

  “Subhuti,

  “theTathagatashouldnotbesoperceived,

  须菩提!如来悉知悉见,

  佛告须菩提:

  “theTathagatasaysisnot,butis,(expediently)calledtheformofthings.

  “Why?

  若为人下贱,是人先世罪业,应堕恶道,以当代人下贱故,先世罪业则(即)为清除,当得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。

  “Subhuti,iftherehadbeen,

  不也,世尊!

  化无所化分第二十五

  须菩提!

  “Whyisit?

  善哉,善哉。须菩提!

  须菩提!汝勿谓如来作是念:

  “Becauseifsomeonesaysso,hewillreallyslandertheBuddhaandbeunabletounderstandmyteaching.

  “Alllivingbeingsbornfromeggs,wombs,humidityorbytransformation

  “Ifmindsabidesomewhere,itwillbeinfalsehood.

  “Yes,WorldHonouredOne,theTathagatapossesseswisdomeyes.”

  随说是经,以致四句偈等,

  “Why?

  “TheTathagatasaystheuniverseisnot(real),butitis(merely)calledtheuniverse.

  Subhutireplied:“No,WorldHonouredOne.

  须菩提!若以三十二相观如来者,

  不也,世尊!

  “wheresoeverthissutraorevenoneofitsfour-linestanzasisexpounded,

  妙行无住分第四

  其福德不行思量。

  “Why?

  “Because,Subhuti,theTathagatasaystheselivingbeingsarenot(really),buttheyare(expediently),calledlivingbeings.”

  佛告须菩提:莫作是说。

  grains.

  不也,世尊!是人不解如来所说义。

  何故故?

  世尊!颇有众生,得闻如是言说章句,生实信不?

  Subhutireplied:“Verygreat,WorldHonouredOne.

  是故佛说:

  “TheBuddhahasexpoundedsuchaveryprofoundsutra.

  “Althoughimmeasurable,uncountableandunlimitablenumbersoflivingbeingsarethusledto(thefinalnirvanafor)theextinctionofreincarnation,

  何故故?

  “thePrajna-paramitaasexpoundedbytheBuddha,isnotPrajna-paramitabutis(merely)socalled.

  “thefirstperfection(paramita)isnotso(but)is(merely)calledthefirstperfection(paramita.)

  “HehadnoDharmabymeansofwhichHeattained‘SupremeEnlightenment’”.

  “whentheTathagataspeaksofworlds,theyarenot,,butare(expediently)called,worlds.

  如是,世尊!此人以是因缘,得福甚多。

  金刚经

  若复有人,闻此经典,决心不逆,其福胜彼,

  不也,世尊!不行以三十二相得见如来。

  “ThisiswhytheTathagatasaysthatallDharmasareBuddha'sDharmas.

  SubhutisaidtotheBuddha:

  “Icannot,WorldHonoredOne!

  “theTathagatawouldhold(theconceptof)anego,apersonality,abeingandalife.

  “andifontheotherhand,avirtuousmanorwomandevelopedtheBodhi-mind,

  “Ofalldharmas,thereisnotasingleonewhichpossessesanego,a

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  法会来由分第一

  “NowlistenattentivelyandIwilltellyouhowthemindsofvirtuousmenandwomen,

  “thatistosay,heshouldgivewithoutamindabidinginform,

  须菩提!过来心不行得,如今心不行得,将来心不行得。

  “Subhuti,ifyouthinkitwhiledevelopingthePerfectEnlightenmentMind,

  “Subhuti,ifyouhave(inyourmind)thisthought:

  汝于来世,当得作佛,号释迦牟尼。以实无有法得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,是故燃灯佛与我授记,作是言:“汝于来世,当得作佛,号释迦牟尼。”

  “Why?

  “Subhuti,supposingamanhasabodyasgreatasmountSumeru,

  须菩提言:甚多,世尊!

  须菩提!汝若作是念,发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心者,

  须菩提白佛言:

  Subhutisaid:“WorldHonouredOne,theTathagatadoesnotexpoundanything.”

  善女子、善女人,发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心

  须菩提!我今实言告汝:

  如来说:天下,非天下,是名天下。

  须菩提言:甚多,世尊!

  “Subhuti,infutureages,

  须菩提!所言统统法者,即非统统法,是故名统统法。

  “SinceIhaveacquiredthewisdomeye,Ihavenotheardofsuchasutra.

  “No.WorldHonouredOne.

  GENUINEDISCERNMENTOFTHEPRINCIPLEOFSUCHNESS,FIVE

  “Subhuti,if(ontheonehand)aBodhisattvagaveinhispracticeofdana,alltheseventreasuresinquantitiessufficienttofillworldsasmanyassand-grainsintheGanges,

  “Subhuti,thisiswhyallBodhisattvasandMahasattvasshouldthusdevelopapureandcleanmindwhichshouldnotabideinform,sound,smell,taste,touchanddharma.

  有为福胜分第十一

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  “AllBhadrasandAryasdifferonaccountoftheEternalAsamskrtaDharma.”

  若菩萨有我相、人相、众生相、寿者相,即非菩萨。

  应无所住而生其心。

  “(because),Subhuti,thatEnlightenmentwasbyitselfneitherrealnorunreal.

  已于无量万万佛所种诸善根,

  (Subhutireplied:)“Ohyes,WorldHonoredOne,Ishallbegladtohear(yourinstruction).”

  知见不生分第三十一

  “Becauseiftheyreallyexist,theyarejustagglomerations.

  “SubhutithusaBodhisattvashouldgivealmswithoutamindabidinginfalsenotionsofform(laksana)

  “cannotlistento,receive,hold(inmind),readandrecitethissutraandexplainittoothers.

  personality,abeingandalife.

  “Subhuti,whatdoyouthink?

  是名阿耨多罗三藐三菩提;

  须菩提!于意云何?

  “Donothavesuchathought.

  believing,understanding,receivingandholdingit,

  佛告须菩提:

  佛得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,为无所得耶?

  须菩提!若菩萨以满恒河沙等天下七宝,持用救济;

  “BecausethereisreallynodharmacalledtheBodhisattva(stage).

  须菩提!

  “Andwhy?

  “DoestheTathagata(infact)expoundtheDharma?”

  复次,须菩提!

  “AsIunderstandthemeaningoftheBuddha'steaching,

  是法对等,无有高低,

  所得好事,我若具说者,或有人闻,心则狂乱,怀疑不信。

  佛说我得无诤三昧,人中最为第一,是第一离欲阿罗汉。

  佛告须菩提:

  须菩提!于意云何?

  尔时,须菩提闻说是经,深解义趣,涕泪悲啼,

  REVERINGTHEPROPERTEACHING,TWELVE

  “BecausetheBuddhasaysthecompletelyperfectrupa-kayaisnot,butiscalledthecompletelyperfectrupakaya.”

  “WorldHonoredOne,

  当生如是心,

  须菩提言:‘不也,世尊!

  何故故?

  于意云何?

  佛说:微尘众即非微尘众,是名微尘众。

  如有人言:如来得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。

  “theTathagatasays,arenotgood,butare(expediently)calledgoodvirtues.

  转轮圣王则(即)是如来。’

  何故故?

  “Subhuti,(when)aBodhisattvapracticescharitywithoutamindabidinginforms,

  “Why?BecausetheTathagatasaystheyarenotrealbutare(merely)called

  须菩提!于意云何?是人解我所说义不?

  须菩提!若菩萨作是言:“我当尊严佛土”,是不名菩萨。

  ThenthewiseSubhutisaidtotheBuddha:

  须菩提!于意云何?

  “whenvirtuousmenorwomendevelopthesupreme-enlightenmentmind,

  如来说:“有我者,则非有我,而凡夫之人以为有我。

  左袒右肩,

  不受不贪分第二十八

  莫作是念!

  BLESSINGSANDWISDOMBEYONDCOMPARE,TWENTY-FOUR

  “Why?

  佛告须菩提:尔所疆土中,一切众生,多少种心,如来悉知。

  TheBuddhasaidtoSubhuti:
